The relationship between Habitat for Humanity of Broward and Saint Anthony Parish is one that has grown and flourished over the past several years. It is an honor to be involved with and to support Habitat for Humanity of Broward. Because of their commitment, the less advantaged families in our community are well served. Habitat helps give the low income families the opportunity to better their lives while at the same time gives our community the chance to participate as volunteers. Habitat serves a large number of single mothers with children in Broward where the need for their services is greatly needed. It is our privilege to partner with such a wonderful organization.
We first partnered with the Habitat for Humanity Family Support Program in 2007. We are pleased to provide the facility for their Youth Program workshops once a month on our school campus. Habitat educates the children of the families working on their homes by providing a solid knowledge base that is so important to these children, especially since so many of them are at risk due to social, economic, emotional and educational reasons. Habitat is preparing the family as a whole for home ownership. The support and education that Habitat provides to their homeowner families and their children is crucial. We feel blessed to be a small part of the Youth Program by providing the space for this very important work.
We are proud to partner with Habitat and their “Holiday Gift Drive”. We provide gift items for an entire family and disburse them at the December workshop on our campus just in time for Christmas. This year our Parish community provided gifts for every member of the 52 Habitat families. Our school students and families were very excited to participate in this project. Once again we assigned this project to our National Junior Honor Society students who were thrilled to help the Habitat families. It was a rewarding experience for us all, the true spirit of the holiday season.
We are truly grateful to take part in such a wonderful program and we look forward to partnering with Habitat for many years to come. Their staff is professional, a delight to work with and their commitment to helping families achieve their goals is outstanding. Whether volunteering or providing financial resources, I would recommend that everyone, adults and children; get involved with Habitat and their worthy cause.
